Akbar Brothers continued to be the largest tea exporter, with an export volume of over 31 million kilograms of tea. This was the largest quantity ever exported by an individual company in Sri Lanka..

Kelaniya Warehouse Complex Phase II consisting 120,000 sq. ft. was completed.
Tenth consecutive years as Sri Lanka’s largest exporter of tea with a volume of 38.5 million kilograms.
Received the HACCP Certification for all products manufactured by
Quick Tea (Pvt) Ltd .

Quick Tea was formed to cater for the processing and export of tea bags.
Hotel Reefcomber, a modern hotel in Hikkaduwa was established as an associate company of Akbar Brothers. |

Falcon Trading was established.
Akbar Brothers Exports was established to handle the group’s exports of packeted tea. |

1992
Akbar Brothers, for the first time, was the largest tea exporter, exporting over 21 million kilograms of tea.
Tea House was established to market specialty tea packs.
The Wattala warehousing complex was set up. |

Akbar Pharmaceuticals was established.
Flexiprint was established as a subsidiary to produce flexible packing equipment including tea bag tags and envelopes |

Kelaniya Warehousing Complex was established with a total warehousing space of 380,000 sq. ft. |

2001
Chairman, Mr. Abbas Akbarally, celebrated 50 years in the tea trade.
Our Subsidiary Quick Tea (Pvt) Ltd., obtained three state-of-the-art Perfecta Tea Bagging machines bringing our total capacity of 25 machines. Quick Tea now has a production capacity of 3x20ft. shipping containers per day.
The Group received five awards from the National Chamber of Exporters including “The best Sri Lankan Brand” for our “ALGHAZALEEN” Brand.
